Dan Jones ScholarshipDr. Dan Jones (James Jordan Jones) was a physics professor who was killed in a car accident on Nov. 15, 1991, at the age of 52. Jones had been a thunderstorm researcher with Langmuir Lab since 1980 and had just been appointed associate professor of physics. His appointment would have been effective for the spring 1992 semester. Jones earned his bachelor's degree at Stanford and his master's and Ph.D. at the University of Arizona at Tucson. Jones was an avid hiker, bicyclist, and member of the Sierra Club. He was an active member of the Socorro Optimist Club and supporter of the Young Woman of the Year scholarship program. A number of people contributed to a scholarship fund in his name, and Dr. Laurence Lattman added funds from the President's Discretionary Fund to make the fund an endowment.
