Network Card Configuration for Windows 2000/XP

 

Windows 2000/XP instructions for connecting to the residential computing network.
NOTE:
After configuring your Ethernet settings, you need to authenticate by opening a browser and accessing a web page. You will be prompted to log in using your banner id and password. After you have authenticated you will gain regular internet access.

Windows 2000 (see XP Professional image)

  1. From the desktop, right-click "My network Places" and click Properties.
  2. Right-click "Local Area Connection" and select Properties.
  3. Highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click the Properties button.
  4. Select "Obtain IP address automatically."
  5. Select "Obtain DNS Server address automatically."
  6. Click "OK" then click "OK" again.

 

Windows XP Professional

  1. Right-click "My Network Places" (if it's not on the Desktop, look in your start menu) and select Properties.
  2. Right-click "Local Area Connection" and select Properties.
  3. Highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP" and click the Properties button.
  4. Select "Obtain IP address automatically."
  5. Select "Obtain DNS Server address automatically."
  6. Click "OK" then click "OK" again.
