New Mexico Tech Gym

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Weight room renovation

The renovation will begin Friday, July 11 at 4:00 p.m. and continue through Friday, August 1 (possibly sooner). This means the weight room will be CLOSED.

However, we will have a few weight machines, a few dumbbells and benches and a few cardio machines set up in the racquetball and squash courts for the duration of the renovation. It will be an inconvenience for just a few weeks but the payoff will be huge! We will have a brand new weight room with lots of new equipment.

This also means the racquetball and squash courts will be CLOSED from Friday, July 11 through Friday, August 1 (possibly sooner).

Thank you all for your cooperation and patience.

Department Mission

The Physical Recreation program shares in the educational mission of the university by offering opportunities to experience personal growth, social development, improve physical and mental health, and to develop lifetime leisure skills for a healthier lifestyle. The department organizes, administers, and promotes a broad program of competitive, recreational, and educational activities for students, faculty, and staff members at New Mexico Tech.

"Tech Gym"

Students, employees, and members of the Socorro community can use Tech’s athletic facilities. The Gym is comprised of two large multipurpose gymnasiums, a martial arts room, a weight and fitness room, a bouldering wall, two racquetball courts, and one squash court. Additional recreational areas include a large, multi-use athletic field; tennis courts; and in the near future a sand volleyball court.

A valid student, faculty or staff identification card OR gym membership is required for entry to the Gym. For a small fee, students may bring one guest, 17 or older, per visit. The host must accompany the guest and be responsible for the guest while in the facility. Full-time students NMT employees are eligible to receive passes for their spouse and dependent children (between the ages of 11 and 21). These are renewable each semester at no charge.

Students, faculty and staff as well as Socorro community members are encouraged to take part in intramural sports which is held year round.

If a student is interested in developing a specific sporting skill or interested in participating in a higher level of competition, the Physical Recreation Sports Clubs program can provide just that!
