Joint Seminar on Water and Climate Issues: 11:30 a.m., NRAO/AOC Auditorium. Dr. David Gutzler of the University of New Mexico speaks on "Water and Drought in the 21st Century." Dr. Jonathan Overpeck, University of Arizona, speaks on "Climate Change, Sea Level, and Drought: Dangerous Anthropogenic Interference?" Co-hosted by EES, NMBGMR, and the Hydrology Program. Lunch provided. This seminar will be followed by a discussion on how audience members can inform the general public about these issues (12:45-1:45).

Ph.D. Dissertation Defense: 130 p.m., MSEC 367. Osmar Rene V. Alcalde presents his dissertation defense: "Numerical Modeling of Overpressure Zones: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach Integrating Geomechanics, Basin-Modeling and Geophysical Data."

HR Seminar on Permanent Employment of Aliens: 2 p.m., Tripp Room, Skeen Library. Estella Green of Human Resources explains this process, including the Labor Certification Process for Permanent Residents and the new regulations which obligate New Mexico Tech to incur a portion of the cost for the Labor Certification. Owl Bar Run: all day. Participants are invited to run or bike from the Tech Gym to the Owl Bar, over 13 miles, any time during the day. Water stations will be at the 4 mile marker, then every two miles thereafter. The Tech Gym will offer a free ride home at 6 p.m. ONLY; otherwise, you should arrange your own transportation back. The Owl will offer a free non-alcoholic beverage to participants; Tech Gym provides free T-shirts.
