    Tech Rugby Rally Falls Short in Las Cruces

    In renewal of a 30-year cross-state rugby rivalry, New Mexico State University withstood a second-half rally by visiting New Mexico Tech to record a 27-17 victory Saturday, Feb. 7, in Las Cruces. In a game of two halves, State monopolized play in the first stanza, while Tech outscored their rivals 17-5 over the final 40 minutes. View Entire Article »


    Miners Show Heart in Las Cruces

    On Valentines' Day, the NMT Soccer Miners traveled to Las Cruces for a mini tournament sponsored by the New Mexico State Soccer Association and hosted by the Mesilla Valley Soccer Club.     Pygmies Defeat College of Santa Fe 40-24

    After tasting victory at home against visiting New Mexico State University on April 3, the New Mexico Tech Rugby football team went on the road Saturday, April 17, to face the College of Santa Fe.     Tech Rugby Routs Cannon Air Force Basead

    It took New Mexico Tech a while to figure out the visiting Cannon Air Force Base Rugby team, but once they did it was off to the races in a 50-17 victory Sunday, March 7.     Soccer Miners Wind up Season over Spring Fling

    The New Mexico Tech Miners soccer team finished their spring exhibition season by hosting a collegiate round-robbin tournament over Spring Fling weekend (April 17-18, 2004). The windy weather was far from perfect but soccer fans, consisting of Tech students and Socorro locals, came out in healthy number to cheer on the Miners during their double header.     Pygmies Finish Season with Heads Held High

    The New Mexico Tech Pygmy Rugby Football Club traveled to Albuquerque on May 15, 2004, to compete in the Rio Grande Sevens Tournament. (A rugby sevens game consists of seven players to a side, instead of the usual fifteen.) They also proudly bade farewell to graduating seniors Alex Bourandas (chemical engineer), Captain Mark Kelly (environmental engineer), and Katsuya "Kats" Sugimoto (electrical engineer).     Tech Ruggers Capture Santa Fe Tournament

    The New Mexico Tech Rugby Club opened their 32nd year in fine fashion Sunday, winning four matches and the collegiate division championship of the Santa Fe Tens Tournament.     Disappointing Season Opener in Tempe for the NMT Miners

    The New Mexico Tech Miners men's soccer team kicked off their 2004 fall season last weekend with two games in Tempe, Arizona. Their first opponent was Thunderbird College, a team that the Miners beat a year ago with a score of 6-2. But the long drive to Tempe on game day and the scorching heat took its toll on the Techies, who came up on the losing side of this one 3-2. View Entire Article »


    Tech Captures Second Rugby Championship in Arizona

    One win, one loss for the NMT Miners in Durango

    The sun broke through in Durango on Saturday, Oct. 2, when the NMT Miner men's soccer team got their second victory of the season, defeating Western State College of Colorado, 3-1. Sophomore midfielder Matt Reichbach put the Miners on the board with the first goal at 19 minutes. WSCC answered 4 minutes later with a goal that quickly quieted the Miner squad.     Student Ruggers Upset Alumni Team

    New Mexico Tech's student rugby team spotted the institute's alumni team a 17-5 halftime lead before storming back in the second spell to score a rare victory, 29-22 in the annual 49ers celebration classic. Prior to Friday evening's match, the Ancestors' average margin of victory against the Pygmies was 67 points to 14 over the prior four years. The Tech underclassmen had not defeated an alumni team since 1997. View Entire Article »
