NRAO Colloquium

Michael Garrett, of ASTRON (Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy), will present this week's N.M. NRAO Colloquium. Garrett will present recent scientific and technical developments at ASTRON. In particular, he will present a summary of the scientific results now flowing from LOFAR, an update on the SKA project, and ASTRON's contribution to the Design Phase. He also will present some of his own research, describing a new project to map out the HDF-N with milli-arcsecond resolution using the European VLBI Network. 11 a.m. in the Domenici Science Operations Center auditorium (NRAO).

Dr. Ezz El Din Abdel Hakim Khalaf is affiliated with the Geological Sciences at Cairo University, Giza, Egypt, and is a visiting professor at New Mexico Tech. His talk is titled, "Volcano-sedimentary Characteristics in the Abu Treifiya Basin, Cairo–Suez District, Egypt: Example of Dynamics and Fluidization Over Sedimentary and Volcaniclastic Beds by Emplacement of Syn-volcanic Basaltic Rocks." 4 p.m. in MSEC 101.

SPE Research Paper Contest

Students from five universities will be at New Mexico Tech for a regional research paper contest. Doctoral students will present their papers on March 13 in the afternoon. Bachelor's and master's students will present all day March 14. An awards dinner will be Saturday evening. All events in the Fidel Center Ballrooms.
