| Dwyre-Herkenhoff Family Scholarship |
|
This fund was established in 1994 by Gaye Herkenhoff Dwyre. The Herkenhoff family was long connected with New Mexico Tech. During the 1920s and 30s, Gaye's grandmother, Lillian Herkenhoff, was the "house mother" on campus. Lillian and her three sons and one daughter lived in an apartment in the basement of Old Driscoll Hall, then the only dormitory on the School of Mines campus. Lillian treated all the "boys" of the School of Mines as her sons, and they all called her "Mom." In addition to overseeing the cleaning and cooking staff in Driscoll, she personally baked homemade pies for her boys. The Dwyer-Herkenhoff Scholarship benefits undergraduate students who are New Mexico residents and meet the criteria for the Bronze scholarship. 2006-07 Recipient
