Welcome to the Office of Disability Services!

Mission Statement

Disability Services provides accommdations and support for the educational development of students with disabilities. We strive to improve understanding and acceptance of students with disabilities throughout NMT community.  Our mission is accomplished through:

    1. Direct assistance to students to encourage and enhance their independence
    2. Ongoing cooperative efforts to develop and maintain an accessible physical environment, and
    3. Educational efforts to creat a supportive psychological environment so students can achieve their educational objectives.

A cooperative relationship is maintained with relevant campus departments to ensure New Mexico Tech complies with federal and state regulations regarding students with disabilities.

Getting Started

This office is the contact place if you are entering NMT with a documented disability for which you will need accommodations. Disabilities for which we accommodate include:

  • Physical issues
  • Pschological disorders
  • Learning disabilities

Most students, although by far not all, that request these services were accommodated previously in school or at home.

Disability services at the post-secondary education level are handled quite differently than they are in elementary, middle and secondary school.  We follow the regulations of Secion 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990. The student has many more responsibilities in procuring accommodations at the post- secondary level. It is important if you have a disability, for which yoy may need accommodating, that you contact the OCDS as soon as possible so that the office can start working with you. Our goal is to be prepared with your accommodations when you start classes. This is an area where being proactive is very important.

The OCDS Counselor will be available on MEET the CAMPUS days. If you would like to schedule a meeting, please do so ahead of time by calling 575-835-6619. We also encourage you to contact the office if you have any questions about disbility accommodations or counseling services.

*Please print and fill out the Disability Intake Form below and bring it with you to your first appointment with the Disability Case Manager along with any other diagnostic documentation*
