State Legislature Proclaims ‘New Mexico Tech Day’ on Jan. 26

SANTA FE, N.M. – New Mexico Tech will take center stage at the Roundhouse in Santa Fe on Thursday, Jan. 26, when the House of Representatives passes a memorial formally creating “New Mexico Tech Day.”

“This is a great honor for the university and a special opportunity for us to showcase all the talented people and unique programs we have in Socorro,” said university President Dr. Stephen G. Wells. “Most elected officials, legislative staff members, and other decision makers are familiar with what we do at New Mexico Tech; however, this event will permit us to provide a closer look at the people of Tech and the impactful projects we have ongoing.”

In addition to the official memorial, students, professors and staff members from the university will be on hand to greet lawmakers, staffers, media members and visitors.  Several graduate students will have their research posters on display in the Rotunda. Representatives of the Student Government Association and the Graduate Student Association will be on hand as well.

Several of Tech’s research divisions will host information booths throughout the day that highlight their service to New Mexico and the world of science, engineering and research. Staff offices, such as the Admission Office, will also be available to answer general questions about the university.

“NMT attracts top-notch students who are engaged in fascinating and practical research projects,” Wells said. “New Mexico Tech Day provides a great platform for us to show that we are home to cutting-edge research facilities with world renowned professors and staff scientists who are building an advanced STEM workforce for the State of New Mexico.”
