The Humanities Department's mission is threefold:
to help students write well, think critically, and read widely;
to provide an intellectual experience that increases students'
awareness of human history, human cultures, and human values; and
to encourage the lifelong study of human experiences. To accomplish
this mission, the department offers introductory and advanced courses
in English composition, literature, history, philosophy, foreign
languages, political science, music, and fine arts, in addition
to the B.S. degree in technical communication.
The Humanities Department has established the
following goals for humanities courses in general: to provide a
foundation for further study, lifelong learning, and good citizenship.
The department wishes students in humanities courses to gain knowledge
of the material, intellectual excitement, curiosity, critical thinking,
and a desire to continue to learn and to try to understand human
experience.
