People You Know (April to June 2012)

Dr. Wallace T. Clark III is the Chief of the Systems Engineering Division, Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M. The center is the single Air Force voice for integrating nuclear weapon systems requirements and nuclear weapon system resource management. Wally has also served as Chief Scientist, 498 Nuclear Systems Wing, AFNWC; Chief, High Power Microwave (HPM) Division, Directed Energy Directorate (RD), Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Kirtland AFB NM; Chief, Laser Division, RD, AFRL, Kirtland AFB NM, and Chief, Technologies Branch (RDHP), AFRL, Kirtland AFB, NM. Prior to entering federal civil service in 1998, Wally worked in industry where he performed Environmental Protection Agency sponsored research on particle drift velocities in electrostatic precipitators via laser Doppler velocimetery; led the engineering and construction of high vacuum multi-species out-gassing test stations for programs at Oak Ridge National Laboratory; investigated and developed in vivo fiber optic based blood pressure and blood gas transducers at AT&T Bell Laboratories; led a team measuring the electromagnetic signature of a Trident missile’s 3rd stage plume for the U.S. Navy; was the Chief Scientist of the U.S. Air Force Electromagnetic Pulse Simulators on Kirtland AFB; and developed the 9-space algorithm to determine the camera observation point of the first U.S. unmanned aerial vehicle for the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps.

After earning his bachelor’s in physics from New Mexico Tech, Wally earned a master’s in physics from Idaho State University and a Ph.D. in Instrumental Sciences from the University of Arkansas, Graduate Institute of Technology.

He and his wife Kathleen Gay (Kathy) Bunch have been happily married for 31 years. They have a daughter, Alethea Rae Espalin and a son W. Thomas Clark IV, a 2007 graduate of New Mexico Tech.


 

Dean T. “Ted” Wilton (Bachelor's in Geology in 1973) was named the Vice President and Chief Geologist for Uranium Resources Inc. on April 2, 2012. He was honored at commencement last year with the 2011 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award.

Uranium Resources Inc. is a development and mining company with resources in New Mexico and Texas. Wilton, who has over 40 years of experience in the mining industry, will be responsible for the development and implementation of exploration and delineation policies, systems, processes, procedures and controls related to both the exploration and development of existing properties as well as identifying potential new projects.

Don Ewigleben, President and CEO of URI, “Ted’s extensive technical and managerial experience will be a great addition to the team as we advance our Los Finados project in Texas and prioritize opportunities within our 183,000 acres using the 19,000 drill logs we own in New Mexico. He will be instrumental in guiding our exploratory, definition and development drilling activities and importantly, will be a strong contributor as we continue to evaluate opportunities to grow our asset base in New Mexico.”

A Certified Professional Geologist, Wilton has a comprehensive range of experience from greenfield to advanced stage mineral exploration and development programs in a variety of regions from North America and Latin America to Australia and New Zealand. He has participated in the discovery of a number of uranium and gold deposits over his career which includes a variety of technical and leadership roles at Freeport McMoRan, Kinross Gold Corp., Neutron Energy Inc, Victoria Gold Corp. and, most recently, Klondex Mines Ltd.

 

Bret Moffett (Bachelor’s in Computer Science, 1986) has been named the new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for Power Engineers, a global consulting engineering firm. POWER created the CAO position to formalize the responsibilities Moffett held for a significant period of time during his tenure as Executive Vice President of Operations. Throughout his career at POWER, Bret has effectively executed a wide range of assignments, from software engineering to project management. He is a seasoned financial professional who continues to manage the day-to-day challenges of business operations.

Bret is a native New Mexican. He was born in Albuquerque and graduated from Santa Fe High. He worked for Sandia Corp. briefly before leaving the state for a stint at Micron Technologies and has been in Idaho since. Moffett also has an M.B.A. from Boise State.
