International Education Week Schedule

International Education Week — an annual “world bazaar” at New Mexico Tech--brings the exotic sights, melodious sounds, and tantalizing fragrances of faraway countries to Socorro each spring. This year festivities will take place November 17-22, culminating with the ever popular Global Village Day, Saturday, November 22.

New Mexico Tech currently has 146 international students, representing more than 40 different countries. The exhibits at Global Village Day include samplings of flags, maps, brochures, and posters—and frequently tidbits of food—from the students’ native countries. Displays will consist of handcrafted items such as woven rugs, leather goods, musical instruments, jewelry, and apparel. Some of the exhibitors will offer music and videotaped presentations throughout the afternoon, and some will have items and delicacies available for a small donation.

Admission, as always, is free and open to the public. However, souvenir “passports” will be available for $1.00 each at the door, allowing visitors to collect “visa stamps” from each of the countries represented at Global Village Day. In turn, visitors who have filled their passports with visa stamps will be eligible for door prize drawings for various door prizes. (Must be present to win.)
