Earth and Environmental Science Seminar

Dr. Jesus Gomez, post-doc researcher with the U.S. Geological Survey, will present "From Mountains to the Ocean: Quantifying the Role of Hyporheic Exchange Along the River Corridor." Dr. Gomez earned his master's and Ph.D. at Tech and is a candidate for the assistant professor position in physical hydrology. 4 p.m. in MSEC 101.

Join the Mechanical Engineering Department for the fall Junior/Senior Design Clinic Conference in the Fidel ballrooms. Physics Dissertation Defense

Kristina Nyland, a Ph.D. candidate in the Physics Department, will defend her dissertation. She will present, "Not Dead Yet: Low-Level Star Formation and Active Galactic Nuclei in the Continued Evolution of Early-Type Galaxies in the Nearby Universe." One of the most pressing issues in current models of galaxy formation and evolution is the role of accreting massive black holes in shaping host galaxy characteristics such as global morphology, interstellar medium conditions, and star formation rate and efficiency. 2 p.m. at the NRAO.
