Materials Engineering Seminar

Date: Wed. 26 Apr, 2017 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Duration: 1 Hour
Location: Cramer Hall

Paul Clem of Sandia National Laboratories will present the Materials Engineering Department seminar. His talk is titled "Printed Materials for Energy Generation." Clem will discuss materials science mechanisms of depositing and consolidating designed functional materials on
photovoltaics, chemical reactors and wind turbine blade sections for green energy applications. Over many years, Sandia has developed ceramic, metal nanoparticle and metal organic precursor inks, and printed devices on polymer, silicon and wind turbine blade substrates as an effort to develop new energy generation methods and improve the capabilities and mechanical reliability of integrated diagnostic devices. Clem and his colleagues have developed a methodology for unattended, printed composite structure monitoring systems, aimed at real-time monitoring of turbine blade strain, total deflection state, crack evolution, temperature, and wind speed for windpower and aircraft assurance monitoring and telemetry. 3 p.m. in Cramer 124.
