Physics Department Faculty Candidate Seminar

Date: Tue. 28 Mar, 2017 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Duration: 1 Hour
Location: Workman Center

Zeljka Fuchs of the Physics Department at New Mexico Tech will present a faculty candidate seminar, "The Madden-Julian Oscillation." The Madden-Julian oscillation (MJO) is the largest weather disturbance on our planet. The MJO is most pronounced in the Western Pacific and over the Indian Ocean, but it influences the weather around the globe by intensifying hurricanes, creating atmospheric rivers, interacting with monsoons, oceans, etc. The theory behind the MJO has been and still remains a "holy grail" of today's atmospheric science research. Fuchs will give a short review on the phenomenon itself and the theories attempting to explain it. 2 p.m. in Workman 101.
