Physics Department Colloquium

Date: Thu. 23 Mar, 2017 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Duration: 1 Hour
Location: Workman Center

Dave Adams of UNAM and the University of Arizona will present the Physics Department colloquium. His talk is titled "Applications of the GPS Technique to Studies of Tropical Deep Convection."  4 p.m. in Workman 101. Given the importance of precipitable water vapor as the variable of choice for many observational as well as theoretical studies of deep convection/large-scale interactions in the Tropics, it is surprising that GPS-PWV has not been more widely employed. Adams will present results from deep tropical continental GPS sites and dense networks, focusing on the shallow-to-deep convective transition as well as a critical examination of water vapor criticality theory for the Central Amazon.
