Dr. Laurent Loinard, professor of astronomy at the Institute for Radio Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) is the guest speaker for the NRAO-Socorro colloquium. He is the P.I. of the VLBA project called the Gould’s Belt Distance Survey. His talk is titled "The Gould's Belt Distances Survey (GOBELINS)." In this talk, Loinard will present the first results of the GOBELINS: a large project to measure the distances to the five most prominent nearby regions of star-formation using the VLBA. In particular, he will focus on Ophiuchus, Serpens and Orion, providing mean distances, internal kinematics, depth constraints, and internal kinematics information for each.11 a.m. in the auditorium of the Domenici Science Operations Center (NRAO).
