From Chile to Washington

David Hunter, master's student in the Mechanical Engineering Department, will present a free, special talk titled "From Chile to Washington: A Tour of Some of the World's Largest Radio Telescopes." Hunter will talk about several of the world's largest radio telescopes: the Very Large Array, the Very Large Baseline Array, the Greenbank Telescope and the Atacama Large Millimeter-Submillimeter Array. He will give an introduction to radio astronomy, an overview of these four telescopes and an in-depth discussion of the construction of ALMA. He will also talk about his experiences working in Chile. Free cookies too! 5:30 p.m. in MSEC 101.
