Physics Department Seminar

Date: Thu. 6 Oct, 2016 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Duration: 1 Hour
Location: Workman Center

Andrea Albert, the Marie Curie Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory, will present the Physics Department colloquium. Her talk is titled "High Energy Particle Physics – In Space!" Gamma rays are the highest-energy photons known and are a probe of the so-called "non-thermal universe." Albert will describe two wide field of view instruments currently exploring the gamma-ray sky: the Fermi Large Area Telescope (Fermi LAT) and the High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) Observatory. She will also briefly summarize some of the exciting science results we have learned using the Fermi LAT and HAWC. Albert is the author of the book Searching for Dark Matter with Cosmic Gamma Rays, published earlier this year https://t.co/UgfmOVlDHZ. 4 p.m. in Workman 101.
