NRAO Colloquium

Date: Fri. 26 Feb, 2016 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Duration: 1 Hour
Location: NRAO

Dr. Tom Maccarone, associate professor of physics at Texas Tech University, is the guest speaker for the NRAO-Socorro colloquium. His talk is titled "Compact Binaries in Globular Clusters." Maccarone will discuss the observational results that have piled up over the past decade that show the strong observational evidence for the existence of black holes in binaries in globular clusters. He will reference both the historical arguments that suggested that these would be rare or non-existent, the more recent theoretical work that identifies the flaws in the historical work, and discussions of the implications for the recent discovery of a double-black hole with LIGO. 11 a.m. in the auditorium of the Domenici Science Operations Center (NRAO).
