Suranya Jayan will defend her thesis in the Computer Science and Engineering Department. Her talk is titled "An Efficient Approach to Securing User Data in Android." Since Android is the most popular mobile operating system in use today, privacy and security are major concerns. This work investigates how applications store private information, existing security features, and known issues associated with these security measures. An encrypted storage option is a necessity that is lacking in the current Android architecture. Jayan has proposed, implemented and tested a framework which supports applications in storing user information securely in an encrypted form on the device. Our proposed framework shows promising results with a minimal performance overhead. 1 p.m. in Cramer 221.
