NRAO Colloquium

Date: Fri. 16 Oct, 2015 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Duration: 1 Hour
Location: NRAO

Dr. James di Francesco, of the National Research Council of Canada and the University of Calgary, will be the guest speaker for the NRAO-NM colloquium. His talk is titled, “Filaments in Star-forming Molecular Clouds.” He will present recent submillimeter surveys of nearby molecular clouds made by the Herschel Space Observatory. These clouds are rife with filamentary structures that may be the efficient means for mass to assemble within clouds to form compact dense cores, the precursors of star formations.  Di Francesco will describe the progress in exploiting the rich Herschel data of nearby star-forming molecular clouds, including the release of the first catalogues, and new attempts to constrain the dynamics of filaments through large-area NH3 mapping of nearby clouds with the Green Bank Telescope. 11 a.m. Friday in the auditorium of the Domenici Science Operations Center (NRAO).
