NRAO Colloquium

Date: Sat. 7 Feb, 2015 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Duration: 1 Hour
Location: NRAO

Dr. Brian Keating, associate professor of physics at the University of California-San Diego, is the guest speaker for the NRAO/NM Colloquium. His talk is titled, "Discovery of Cosmic Microwave Background B-mode Polarization." The week of March 10 to 17, 2014, was a remarkable one for cosmology, marking the beginning of a new era of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) measurements. The POLARBEAR telescope reported evidence for B-mode polarization at sub-degree scales produced by gravitational lensing of the CMB's E-mode polarization. Seven days later, the BICEP2 telescope released results showing an excess of CMB B-modes in the degree-scale angular range with greater than 5 sigma significance. 11 a.m. in the auditorium of the Domenici Science Operations Center (NRAO).
