NRAO Colloquium

Date: Fri. 5 Dec, 2014 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Duration: 1 Hour
Location: NRAO

Thomas L. Wilson of the Naval Research Lab will present the weekly NM-NRAO Colloquium. He will present "Star Formation in the Orion Region." After an overview of the history and geometry of molecular clouds and the Orion clouds, Wilson will present a short summary of the content and structure of Orion KL nebula. He will then discuss a few details of the Herschel Orion Protostar Survey, which was a key program to observe over 300 Orion protostars in the far infrared, combined with extensive observations from Spitzer, Hubble, APEX, IRTF, and other facilities. Some key results include the discovery of very young protostars not identified by Spitzer, the characterization of rare outbursting protostars, and a study of how protostellar luminosity evolves across the envelope infall phase. 11 a.m. in the auditorium of the Domenici Science Operation Center (NRAO).
