Duration: 1 Hour
Location: NRAO
Kristina Nyland, a Ph.D. candidate in the Physics Department, will defend her dissertation. She will present, "Not Dead Yet: Low-Level Star Formation and Active Galactic Nuclei in the Continued Evolution of Early-Type Galaxies in the Nearby Universe." One of the most pressing issues in current models of galaxy formation and evolution is the role of accreting massive black holes in shaping host galaxy characteristics such as global morphology, interstellar medium conditions, and star formation rate and efficiency. 2 p.m. at the NRAO.
