NRAO Colloquium

Date: Fri. 20 Sep, 2013 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Duration: 1 Hour
Location: NRAO

Dr. Laurent Loinard of UNAM will present the NRAO Colloquium. His talk is titled "The Gould's Belt Distances Survey: Mapping the Distribution of Star-Forming Regions in the Milky Way." In the last decade, it has become possible to measure the distance and the velocity vector of young stars located within 500 pc of the Sun using Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) techniques. This opens the door to some extremely high-accuracy astrophysics. Loinard will focus on a legacy VLA/VLBA project that aims at mapping in three dimensions all the nearby regions of star-formation. All NRAO employees are invited to attend via video. 11 a.m. Friday in the DomeniciScienceOperationsCenter auditorium.
