Heather Bloemhard, Ph.D. candidate in the Physics Department, will present "Characterizing the Atmosphere of WASP1b." Bloemhard will present an infrared spectrum of the Jupiter-sized exoplanet, WASP1b, which was observed by the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility. She will also explain the suite of retrieval algorithms used to model the chemical composition and temperature structure of the atmosphere. Her findings imply that the atmosphere of WASP1b must have a strong temperature inversion and high abundances of methane and carbon dioxide. 4 p.m. in Workman 101.
