Brown Hall
Brown Hall was built in 1929 to replace Old Main, the first building on campus, which burned in 1928. It was named after Captain Cony T. Brown, a Socorro Mine operator who was influential in founding the New Mexico School of Mines. C.T. Brown later served as a regent of the school from 1899 to 1913 and from 1917 to 1922. The Brown Award, the highest award given to an undergraduate at graduation, was also named after him.
Brown Hall houses the offices of the president and vice presidents of Tech, the Business Office, Human Resources, Grants & Contracts, Payroll, Purchasing, and Budget and Analysis. While you’re at Brown Hall, pop out front to see the Founder’s Plaque, honoring the people who donated the land for the original School of Mines campus.
