Program Activities

Academic Year Component - Tutoring and Saturday Sessions

Tutoring

August 2014 - May 2015

During the regular APS school year, UBMS offers students a free tutoring program after school one day per week with two additional days offered at the local UBMS office. During these sessions, students have the opportunity to work in groups or individually with the tutor to help improve their performance in their core academic courses (thereby increasing their overall GPA), practicing for standardized tests such as the NMHSCE, PSAT, SAT and ACT.

Also, one Saturday per month, students will participate in the UBMS Learning Institute to help them develop solid skills in math, science, and writing across the curriculum. These activities will include workshops, seminars, field trips, laboratory experience, and research projects aim to intensify, enhance, empower, and develop their skills.

2014 Summer Program

Summer

June 2nd - July 11th

For three weeks this summer, UBMS students will travel to New Mexico Tech and participate in a full, residential college experience from June 2nd - June 20th. Under the careful supervision of the UBMS staff, students will live in the residence halls, eat in the cafeteria, receive intensive instruction in college preparatory classes, and make use of the facilities available at Tech. This program is designed to simulate the college experience for UBMS students and to help generate the skills and motivation necessary for students to succeed in high school and beyond.  During the fourth week, June 23rd - June 27th, students will attend a robotics workshop at the Albuquerque UBMS office off of Central Ave. across from UNM.  The fifth week students will spend camping and learning about the local geology and ruins found at Chaco Canyon, and the final week, July 7th - July 11th, students will travel out of state to Boston where they will tour three prestigious universities and visit local historical sites.
